Who We Are
Think. Dream. Manifest.
A Place of My Own is a NC DHHS Licensed Mental Health Agency. We serve clients, both youth and adults, providing residential and periodic services for those with mental health and developmental disabilities. We are committed to providing a meaningful life at home, school, and in the community for individuals that require non-medical personal care 24/7, 365 days a year.
What We Do
We accomplish this goal by addressing the needs of those served, and by enriching the lives of clients and their families with information, support, and care to enhance their vision of community involvement. Our services include residential AFLs, Group Homes, Community Networking and Individual and Group Therapy.
Our Work
We are an organization dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and mental health diagnosis by providing support programs, education and advocacy. We do this by providing housing, gifts, clothing, food and living necessities to community partners that offer wellness and care for individuals in alternative living environments. Education is shared with individuals, family members and the community to foster inclusion and independent living for those with IDD/MH. We are IDD/MH advocates.
Think Dream Manifest is dedicated to enriching the lives of those with mental health challenges and intellectual and developmental disabilities. We do so by providing programming in the community in which the individuals live that provides access to obtain skills that will help them reach their independent living goals. Programming includes but is not limited to cooking classes, community navigation, financial management, obtain vocational skills of reading, writing, math and technology, community-based shopping, transportation to and from events/activities, inclusion for participation to local cultural gatherings and festivals. Think Dream Manifest also advocates for MH/IDD through literature and speaking engagements to foster inclusion of those with MH/IDD. We engage community partners that may not be aware that they have accessibility challenges that unknowingly creates barriers for those with MH/IDD. We assist those community partners with finding solutions for inclusion. We are intentional in helping those with MH/IDD develop a community. This community is of their peers and individuals who do not have MH/IDD. Our goal is to enhance the lives of the individuals that we serve to reach the full life that they imagine for themselves. We provide programming that is large or small group as well as 1:1. We meet individuals where they are or in centralized community locations. Our goal is to minimize operating cost and maximize programming by engaging volunteers with the needed skill set for programming.
